Catching Up

I’ve whined and moaned a lot over the summer – mostly to Scampi Dog πŸ˜€ I’ve quite often wanted to rant but he still gets nervous when he hears angry voices and is still reactive sometimes so my moaning is done very cheerfully – β€œOoooh Scamps, do you know just how annoying this shoulder is? And my hip is sore today too. People are getting on my nerves lately, me and you should move to Cornwall – just us. I think a biscuit might make things better, let’s have a Bonio”. He runs to his cushion, sits in his best look-at-me-being-good-and-sitting-nicely position, gazes at the Bonio box and waits patiently for me to give him his treat πŸ˜€

The garden has been a bit productive this year but nowhere near as good as previous years. I’ve had enough to freeze some so I can make stews with homegrown veg but it definitely won’t last all winter so I’ll have to BUY SOME which I’m not at all happy about! What did manage to grow is actually very tasty so I won’t complain too much. I like to take photos of what has been harvested but after taking these, I lost interest. My Garden 2017 photo folder on my laptop is almost empty and I now wish I’d carried on capturing snapshots of the year.

My shoulder is still twinging occasionally but there’s no pain so I’ve been crocheting again for the past few weeks. I was halfway through a blanket for myself – I ran out of yarn so ordered more, I couldn’t wait for it to be delivered so I could carry on. But when it arrived I decided I needed a holiday project so it was tucked into a bag to take to Cornwall at the end of September. Halfway down the motorway, I realised I’d left it at home πŸ˜€ Had a great holiday but I missed my yarn and was happy to be back, crocheting again. And I’ve finished the blanket

Now that I’m back in full swing again, I’ll be crocheting my way through my list of ideas and posting them here – disasters or not πŸ˜€

Busy

Not with crochet, unfortunately 😦 I’ve finished a few things, but haven’t really got stuck into anything new.

We’ve been decorating. I say ‘we’, I actually mean Mr MB. We ripped out the old bath and installed a shower cubicle – I love it! Obviously the bathroom needed painting after that. The kitchen and hall, stairs and landing walls just needed a clean and I was ready, armed with sugar soap. Mr MB wanted to repaint so I told him he could do it himself then, lol. And he did – all three areas at once and he took his time over it – halfway through I was seriously considering moving out forever. It doesn’t sound too bad but I have no wall units in the kitchen, there’s a lot of stuff on shelves and hanging from rails – which all had to go somewhere else. Not tidily of course, it was shoved wherever he could find a space. It was chaos, I think he forgot about the three other people and one dog that live in this house πŸ˜€

I put things back when it was finally over, flinging things away as I went. By the time I’d finished, I was in full decluttering mode so went through everything in the house, flinging, rearranging, cleaning, tidying. I saved yarn-sorting til last, that was my reward – along with chocolate.

A few things I have had time to finish, the photos aren’t great though

Settling Down

My new routine is working well, though there are many Interruptions By Dog πŸ˜€ He’s a little star most of the time but sometimes decides to help with my crochet. It’s entertaining(!) when he decides that my hook is a stick and my yarn is a ball. And he likes to steal yarny flowers. I’m not bothered about keeping yarn away from him when I’m making things for myself, but the supplies for anything I want to sell have be in a fur-free zone. So I now have two areas for making and stashing. It means hooky progress has slowed down a bit, but it’s still progress and that’s OK. For a while I found myself rushing from one thing to the next without really thinking – ‘must clean the chicken shed, oh damn I forgot to water the tomatoes, that blanket has be ready in two days and I’m nowhere near finished…..’ etc. I’ve made time for everything and things are much easier to manage. I’ve even remembered to take photos of things as I go πŸ˜€

A Bit Of Crochet

Mrs P, you mentioned adolescence (sorry but I couldn’t reply to your comment for some reason?!). Scampi is definitely showing adolescent behaviour – I feel like I’m constantly having an argument with him! lol. And the amount of fur he’s shedding is unbelievable, I’ve had to retire my faithful Henry vacuum cleaner and buy a Dyson Animal πŸ˜€

The second Scampi Blanket is finished. It IS straight, I promise – I had to fling it down and take the photo quickly, no time to be fussy when little paws are heading your way, lol. I put it on his seat and was thanked with a lick to my right eye, then he dragged the blanket onto the floor and sat on his seat without it πŸ˜€

New blanket

There’s a yarn bomb happening here, it’s at the Kingsholm Stadium and timed to coincide with the rugby world cup. I don’t know all the details yet, all I know is it has a garden theme. So I’ve been hooking mini flowers for a garland

Still Exhausted!

I can’t believe it’s been over a month since my last post! I also haven’t read anyone else’s posts, though it’s not through lack of trying. I have kept up with a forum I’ve used for years – I sneak on there first thing in the morning, while the house is quiet and Scampi Dog is still dozing. Once everyone’s gone off to work, I do a bit of housework, walk the dog, more housework, play with the dog, then he lies down for a sleep. I make a coffee and just as I sit down to drink it and log in here, he’s up again πŸ˜€

Dog training was two steps forwards and one step back for a while, which I expected, then a local cat decided to spend most of her time in next door’s front garden, in full view of my hall window. Scampi kicks off when he sees any cat, but he really hates this one and stands at the window and barks and barks and barks……. He forgets everything he’s been taught when he spots this cat and he’s wound up for hours afterwards, he spends the rest of the day going to the window to see if the cat’s there. It’s like all that training hasn’t happened. I can’t block his access to this window (I can to every other window in the house – why did that cat have to choose THAT spot?!) so I’ve been trying to train him to stay away. Fail. I’ve taken the easy, lazy way out I’m afraid – I’ve taped material to the window frame. That’ll do til I can sort out something permanent. I had no idea that hearing constant barking, then the constant tellings off, could leave me so tired πŸ˜€

The view from the window has been blocked for two days and I have peace! The window looks awful but I don’t care πŸ˜€ We had a routine going before Cat Stress, hopefully I can get back to it now. I will have time to sit and read my book, do a bit of crochet and flit about on the internet. I found more bits of yarn, added them to my Bits Basket and made a blanket for Scampi. It’s meant to be – and is mostly! – a semi-circle, it’s the first one I’ve made and I must’ve miscounted the stitches slighty, the straight edge isn’t πŸ˜€ Trying to get him to sit still and pose is impossible so I’ve quickly snapped these two photos

I’ve still got lots of bits left, so I started this (for the dog, again!) but had to abandon it while the Cat Stress took over. I’ll get back to it later today. Just as I took this photo, he grabbed the yarn and made off with it, a second later and the blanket was ruffled and I’d have only managed to capture about a quarter of it, lol

Blogs And Dogs

I want to catch up with blogs and write a few posts (I’ve scribbled titles down to remind myself of what I want to say, lol) but Scampi has other plans for me. If he could talk, this is what he’d say –
β€œLook look look! I’ve peed for you – all over your carpet!”
β€œLook look look! I’ve peed on the bottom shelf, all over some DVDs!”
β€œPlay with me!”
β€œRub my belly!”
β€œThis training thing is hard work, I need a day off. Today, I will ignore everything you say. I’ll even ignore the treats in your pocket – you know, the ones I get when I listen to you – and I’ll stand at the window and bark at cars for two solid hours. OK?”

Crocheting with a dog in the house is interesting! Until two weeks ago, I had a small chest of drawers for yarn, plus there was a basket or box under the coffee table, a couple tucked beside the sofa, one under a chair and a variety of bits lying around. Whatever I was working on was on the arm of the sofa, with a trail of yarn leading to the floor.

Not anymore πŸ˜€ As much yarn as possible has been squished into the drawers, some is still in boxes and stacked on top of the tumble dryer in a small cupboard off the hallway (the space I laughingly call The Utility Room) and my basket of bits is balanced on top.

Scampi has a choice of three blankets but he keeps trying to steal the first ripple I made. Obviously I needed to make him one of his own. I picked some balls of yarn from the stash and asked him what he thought, but he assumed they were toys so I had to choose for him – hope he’s happy with the colours πŸ˜€
