Busy Couple Of Weeks

Our last – and my favourite – guinea pig has died. RIP Timmy 😦

Timmy

I’ve had a dentist appointment, two teeth out and a filling, hated that but the upside was the gas and air 😀

I’ve waited in for three postal deliveries plus had some new windows delivered (to be fitted this weekend). We had a relaxing drink in a country pub with friends, then went out again – more drinks, same pub, different friends. And a christening, which was lovely.

I lost my crochet mojo! I kept missing stitches on my baby blanket, and mis-counting when I made chains. I picked up my wreath and a hook yesterday, my brain seems to be back in gear so I’ll attempt more leaves today and hope they turn out OK……….

Autumn

Autumn starts TODAY. I’ve been annoyed with people saying it’s autumn since the beginning of the month, so I had a little rant on a forum about it. Apparently it was changed a few years ago, so the seasons now start on the 1st of the month. Who changed it, and why? The seasons will always change on the 21st for me (except September which varies a bit) and I’m not going to change my mind just because they say so. When they can change solar activity, I MAY consider a re-think!

I know the weather doesn’t suddenly change overnight, but I automatically go into ‘cosy mode’. Meals become comfort food – soups, stews, cottage pies, baked potatoes, toasties, crumbles. Candles are lit in the evening, not too many, just one or two. Some people think gardens looks a bit depressing – not me, they look like they’re having a well-earned rest.

I love to clear out the flower pots and stack them in the greenhouse, ready for next year. The sprouts are growing at the end of the veg patch, we put up a temporary fence to keep them safe then let the chickens loose. They’re better than any tool/machine for digging up the weeds and ploughing 😀 All the dead plants go into the compost bins. There’s lots of trees around here, there’s too many leaves to fit them all in the compost so we’ll wait for a chilly night, make a hot chocolate then go out and burn them on the veg patch. The ash is raked into the ground, then the veg patch is left alone for a few months.

The chickens will need more shredded paper in their nesting boxes – well, they’re sat still for quite a while each day, they might get cold! Timmy guinea pig will spend less time in his garden run and more time enjoying the freedom of the kitchen and hall. Veg peelings are split between the animals – Timmy gets them raw, the chickens get some that have been boiled up, to help keep them warm.

It’s impossible to get all eleven chickens in one photo, so here’s one of Maisie

A new me…..

…………… hopefully!

Yesterday, I found THIS conversation on MoneySavingExpert.  I read the whole thing, and today I’m going to go back through it and pick out the bits that suit me.  I’ve already tried a couple of the tips and I’m feeling quite relaxed and ready for anything.  I feel in control for the first time in months.

Cleo has laid her first egg, and it’s a lovely pastel green.

As you can see, I’m still not very good with this camera.  I miss my old one.

Here’s a pic of Baz, she’s got bumblefoot so is on Baytril at the moment.

Weeds everywhere….

I worked full time last week.  After work I only had time to bung some washing in, clean out the guinea pigs and chickens, eat, shower then go to bed.  The garden was watered but not weeded – you should see the state of it.  I’ve just been out and pulled some weeds up.  I filled two buckets (the chickens appreciated them!) but it looks like I’ve hardly touched it.

Our new lawnmower has just arrived, it’s a Qualcast Panther 380.  That’ll save a bit on the electric bill.

I’m still playing around with my notepads, just when I think I’ve got it right I change something, lol.  I’m almost there.

I’ve discovered that my sewing machine has more than one use – if you take the thread and bobbin out, it’s great for perforating paper.

RIP Boris Pig xxx

Every few months, his digestive system would shut down.  The vet would give him something to kick-start it and I’d have to feed him with a syringe for a few days.  It happened again last week, he had his usual visit to the vet and I took him to work so I could give him food and water regularly.  But it must have been too much for him to cope with this time.  He’s buried near the cherry tree.

Bad week

Poor Fudge Chick has had her eye pecked by one of the other girls (I suspect Pink).  She hid herself away and wouldn’t let us near her.  We waited til she went to bed, then brought her into the house where we bathed her eye with warm salty water then covered it with antiseptic eye cream.  The eye has healed closed so she’s been a bit wobbly on her feet, but she’s learning quickly.  She’s been eating, drinking and laying so she’s feeling fine.

Rambo (guinea pig) decided to munch on the power lead for the wireless router.  I tried to find a 7.5 volt, 1500 MA adapter but no-one seems to sell them so we had to order a hub.  It’s replaced the router and modem, and it’s smaller than both of those so we can hide it away.  Less leads lying about, so it’s tidier too.  I wasn’t happy about going a few days without the internet though!
