2019 – So Far, So Good

This is my year. I know this because my diary says so 😀

Diary

So what am I going to do with it? I have no idea, except whatever I do won’t be done in a hurry. I’ve spent the first few weeks just pottering – doing jobs that need doing without planning anything, just going with the flow. My only rule for this year is No Rushing. Take my time. Stop worrying, just get on with things as and when they need doing and everything will work out just fine.

Scampi has taken to sitting in the corner of the kitchen, trying not to do the splits, while hoping I’ll give him a bit of whatever food I’m cooking.

Mornings involve ambling around the local area with Scampi. There’s not many people about so walks are calm (unless he spies a cat!) and he’s very relaxed when we arrive home, which sets him up for a good day. Shorter days mean the chickens are in their shed for longer, so it needs cleaning out more often. Instead of just doing what needs doing then coming back into the house, I spend about 15 minutes pottering about in their run, tidying and raking. Chickens deserve a nice garden too 😀 They’ve started laying again so we have lovely fresh eggs.

We’ve had a couple of snowy days, this is very exciting for me because it doesn’t happen often! There was around three inches of the stuff lying on the ground one morning – and it only lasted for a day – but I couldn’t wait to go out in it. Scampi loved it and was like a chld, he didn’t want to walk in other people’s footprints, he wanted to go into the fresh stuff where he stomped and kicked it up 😀

I am a houseplant killer, I just can’t keep them alive. But I was given a Christmas amaryllis bulb so I planted it, said a prayer and it now looks like this. I just hope I can keep it alive, at least until it flowers. It looks a bit pale to me.

Beach Hut Beginnings

I’ve decided to turn the spare room into a beach hut craft room. I love love love Cornwall and would move there right now if it were possible, but it isn’t. So I’ve flicked through my holiday photos from the past few years for ideas on how to make the room feel a little bit like Cornwall. I’m still not exactly sure how I want it to look but Talland Bay Beach Cafe, Polperro, my money Box, lap tray, treasure chest and Cornishware have inspired me.

I can’t decorate yet, the walls have to chased out for electric cables first, in the meantime I’ve made a start on some bunting and a blanket

All Change

I had a few ideas about a craft space, but I couldn’t visualise how it was going to work. So I moved a couple of bits of furniture, moved them again, decided to swap this with that and maybe that chest of drawers in the bedroom would work better? While I was pondering, I gathered a few crafty things together. I want matching pen pots and matching baskets for a desk which I don’t yet have. I was given some Christmassy bits and pieces a couple of weeks ago, so I laid everything out and started moving them around the table, trying to decide how to assemble them into pretty things. I also made a few gift bags, just because I felt like it. I was still searching Pinterest for the perfect arrangement of craft things in a small space.

Then Master MB announced he was moving out and was gone in a flash (well not really, he’s been back almost daily to pick things up but he’s been super organised and got things done quickly – I like to think he gets his organisational skills from me, lol) and suddenly there’s a spare room. Miss MB has moved into his room, which leaves us (and by that, I mean ME, of course) with a small bedroom. I always thought I wanted a craft room but I’m not sure I want to spend hours tucked away upstairs, I like being in the lounge. It’s much closer to the kettle, and food, and Netflix 😀

I can’t decide what to do so I’ll just carry on staring at Pinterest pictures and trying to decide what to do with this little lot

Tea & Coffee. And A Basket.

Mr MB’s friend over-ordered slightly 😀 They’re near their use-by date so he sent us some of his extras. I do love a freebie (or 750!).

We have 250 teas, 475 coffees and 25 decaf coffees.  Should keep us going for a while!

I prefer naked baskets 😀 I have lots, all different shapes and colours and most of them are unlined. I bought a round one last year in a gift shop in Mevagissey. The bottom is 12” across, the top is 14” and it’s just over 4” high. Not bad for £6. I have a habit of leaving the yarn on the floor when I’m working on something and it ends up rolling all over the room. This basket is perfect for WIP Yarn Containment 😀 It needs lining though, the yarn keeps snagging on sticky-out bits of wicker. After a few months of thinking “I MUST line that basket”, I’ve finally started.
