New Chickens

We have new chickens! We planned on getting two, so we drove to Malvern to visit Newland Poultry.  We found this little man looking after them, unfortunately we weren’t allowed to take him home 😀

There were lots of Seramas running around, look how tiny they are! I can definitely see some of these running around my garden soon 😀

We chose a Lavender Orpington and a French Wheaten Maran. But there were bantams too so we bought two – Mr MB has wanted bantams for ages and as soon as I saw them, I had to have them too 😀 A Chocolate Pekin and a Lemon Pekin. They’re all sixteen weeks old.

We’ve only had them for two days so don’t know their personalities yet. But at the moment, Little Miss Lemon is very shy and quiet

SAMSUNG

Little Miss Chocolate is chatty and is going to be trouble 😀 She was the first to explore, has perched on the washing line, jumped up onto the kitchen worktop and sat on the windowsill, and leaps about among (and in) the plant pots

SAMSUNG

Miss Wheaten seems to be scared of noises. She was happily scratching on the grass when she heard one of the older girls squawk and she ran for the bushes. She did the same with a car horn and a gate closing, lol

SAMSUNG

Miss Lavender is a bit nervous but getting used to us quickly

SAMSUNG

We have to keep them seperate from the older girls for a few days, so they’re just meeting each other through the fence at the moment. I’m not sure I can keep them seperate for long – the Wheaten and the Lemon have already jumped onto the fence and up the willow tree that’s in the chicken run 😀

Tall Ship

We went for a walk down the canal yesterday, a tall ship is making it’s way to the docks. It’s being used for filming for a few weeks, there will be no chance of getting anywhere near it once it reaches the docks (I assume? All those actors and film types doing their thing) so we thought we’d go and have a look at it while it’s still travelling.

Happy Things In June

My camera, which I’ve just got used to, has got a bit wet so it’s sat in a box full of rice at the moment.  I’ve had to use my phone for some of these photos, I’m surprised they came out as well as they did!

We Went Out…..

…..and didn’t come back 😀

Mr MB has the week off work. I was happy to stay home and have a few days out, but he wanted to get away for a few days. I packed a bag, which sat on the bedroom floor for four days before it made it into the car. We had Dartmoor in mind, but still weren’t sure whether we were going for a day out or staying in a B&B. We drove down the M5 and decided to keep going until we felt like stopping, we ended up in Cornwall for three nights 😀 We stayed in Hannafore, which is just round the corner from Looe. Here’s the view from our bedroom window

Seaweed, from the above rock pools. We picked a lot of sea lettuce and dulse (I think it’s called dulse?) to bring home, it’s almost dry now and will be crumbled up to sprinkle on salads

I only managed to finish one crocheted item this month, so instead of doing a separate post I’ve tagged it on to the end of this one.  Must stop flitting about and concentrate on one thing at a time!

Another Cold Day…..

…..another zoo 😀 Bristol Zoo Gardens this time.  It wasn’t cold all day, the sun shone occasionally and it was quite warm during those few moments!

A Cold Day Out (and a little moan)

Mr MB has the week off work, so we’ll be out and about for the next few days. We visited Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm but really should’ve picked another day – it was freezing! 6°c and very windy. I tried hard to relax but my muscles tensed up in the cold and the sciatica kicked in. I WAS NOT going to miss out on seeing anything so I limped on pathetically 😀 The animals weren’t keen on the weather either – they’d pop outside for a quick walk then disappear back in. I didn’t take many photos, it was difficult to get a good picture inside. Then the camera batteries died, the spares were in the car and it seemed such a long way back to the car park.

They have a new elephant, Buta. I thought she looked a bit sad and lonely, til it was explained to me that she was napping! It looks like she’s stuck inside but she’s really not, the gates were all open and she can wander onto a huge grassy area and some woodland if she feels like it. The gates and fencing made me think of Jurassic Park 😀

I think this font is way too small.  I usually type in OpenOffice using Verdana font, then copy and paste on to here.  But it converts to this font now.  Also there’s no option to open photos in a new tab or window.  Gggrrrrrrr.

Edited – I’ve solved the font problem (I’ve altered the text at the top of the post), I needed to throw in a bit of HMTL.  Still can’t solve the photo problem though.

Edited again! – I’ve just found out the new way to set images opening in a new window.  Insert the image into your post, click on it and click the insert/edit link button.  Tick the box to open in a new window/tab, then update.  Bet you all knew this already didn’t you 😀
